“Anybody have an extra pencil?”

As part of the social responsibility project begun in September 2009 entitled “Anybody have an extra pencil?”, BTA Catering has organized a charity campaign aiming to provide the clothing and stationery needs of two schools for one year.

BTA’S PROJECT TO SUPPORT EDUCATION: As part of the social responsibility project organized with the participation of staff in Istanbul and Ankara, BTA Catering has designated two recipient schools to benefit from its charity campaign. BTA Ankara has met the stationery, uniform and schoolbag needs of the Haluk Gökalp Kılınç Elementary School in the Kalealtı village of Elbistan for one year and BTA Istanbul has provided for the needs of the Örgülü Elementary School in the Örgülü village of Bozova county, Şanlıurfa.

The aid packs were distributed to students by staff of the Ankara and Istanbul offices with the participation of heads of districts and directors of national education.

Remarking that as a corporation they attach great importance and value to social responsibility projects, BTA Catering General Manager Sadettin Cesur said that within the scope of the social responsibility project entitled “Anybody have an extra pencil?” initiated in September 2009, they aimed to meet the school needs of students such as stationery, books, notebooks and clothes. Regarding the project, organized by BTA Catering staff and their families, airport staff and the support of companies supplying the products, Cesur says: “Our objective is to fulfill our responsibilities to the environment and to people.”

A toy tunnel for children

“Even if they don’t do any shopping, children have fun here and their parents are happy because this is a place that will keep children entertained.”

VURAL ULUS
ATÜ Istanbul Operation Director

TOY TUNNEL: A Toy Tunnel has been built in the ATÜ Duty Free area of the Istanbul Atatürk Airport’s International Terminal, where children can both have fun and shop. The tunnel, to which children are magnet drawn, swarms with the younger set all day long. Parents are quite happy, in that they say it relieves children of their pre-flight tension. ATÜ Istanbul Operation Director Vural Ulus explained how the toy tunnel idea developed: “We were experiencing some problems in displaying the toys we sell and then we thought of designing an area specifically for children. We aimed to design a venue that is attractive, where all toys are shown without any division by age group, and where children will be able to relax. We therefore started displaying all toys in our product range in this toy tunnel and we received very good feedback. Our sales have increased by 50% since we opened the toy tunnel. Even if they do not do any shopping, children have fun here and their parents are happy because this is a place that will entertain the children.”

The toy tunnel set up by ATÜ in the Duty Free area of the Istanbul Atatürk Airport draws the attention of all children, regardless of age groups.
