Following an analysis conducted with emergency and security authorities in the Istanbul Atatürk Airport to identify locations, a total of 49 telephones with only four buttons have been installed at strategic places within the Domestic and International Terminals and the Multi-Storey Car Park. The buttons were positioned so that the first button will contact “Emergency Health Aid,” the second “Fire Authorities,” the third “Police Info Center” and the fourth the “Terminal Operation Center.” When the phones are used to contact “Emergency Health Aid,” the member of staff who receives the call is able to immediately see the location of the caller on a computer screen. Health personnel can therefore be forwarded to the necessary location without any need for the caller to describe it.

The Istanbul Atatürk Airport welcomes approximately 80,000 passengers a day, 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. Daily passenger circulation is equal to the population of a district in the city, so security plays a very important role within terminal operation processes. The Emergency Telephones project takes care of the possible needs of passengers, the people accompanying them and airport staff, and aims to provide instant access for everyone who might need assistance without the need to know any of the required phone numbers.
