How absurd can a family be? The answer is in the Family Guy series…

Like other animation series such as The Simpsons and South Park, Family Guy, developed by Seth MacFarlane in 1999 for FOX TV, is a series that makes fun of American culture and knows no bounds in its criticism and humor

The series, first introduced to audiences in Turkey on CNBC-E on September 12 2006, was discontinued in 2000 and then in 2002. However, high DVD sales brought back the series in 2005. For those who are familiar with The Simpsons and South Park but who have not watched this series, let us quote The Times: “Take the Simpsons, add a bit of South Park and some surreal moments and stir and you will obtain Family Guy.” The series, which has won three Emmy awards, introduces us to the Griffin family from Rhode Island, focusing on the diabolical plans of infant and evil genius Stewie Griffin.

CHARACTERS:

PETER GRIFFIN: The father; hooked on alcohol, food and his wife Louise, is inconsiderate, naïve and a little selfish.
LOIS GRIFFIN: The mother comes from a wealthy family and strives to be a model mother and wife.
MEG GRIFFIN: The family’s adolescent daughter who believes she is ugly, while continually searching for a boyfriend.
CHRIS GRIFFIN: The family’s fat son who does illogical things.
STEWIE GRIFFIN: The family’s smallest member. His dream is to kill his mother and conquer the world.
BRIAN GRIFFIN: The family pet, but also the most intellectual character in the series, is Peter’s best friend. He is the only one able to deal with Stewie and very helpful in solving family problems.

THE SIMPSONS THE MOVIE When the film version of the Simpsons was first released it broke box office records. In the film, Homer attempts to save his family and the whole world from a disaster he himself has caused. SIMPSONS AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS Directed by Bobby Farrelly, this film contains four highly entertaining road adventures (30 Minutes over Tokyo, Simpson Safari, Blame it on Lisa, the Regina Monologues) of the Simpsons. SOUTHPARK BIGGER LONGER & UNCUT South Park 3rd grade students Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny watch an adult movie and leave the cinema with wide open eyes and an expanded vocabulary. Their parents’ protests lead to a real war between the USA and Canada!

SONBAHAR (AUTUMN): Directed by Özcan Alper, the film tells the dramatic story of Yusuf, who is released after a ten year prison sentence and returns to the East Black Sea region, where he was born and grew up. The film stands out with its musical score, as well as the criticism it directs at 12 September.
