The book of Halide - Inside Out

In her new book “Halide Edip; A Woman Who Outsizes Her Biography” (Everest Publishing), Ipek Calislar follows the astonishing life of a leading controversial figure in our history.

Following her book “Latife Hanim,” Ipek Calislar is back with yet another biography which is certain to create headlines; “Halide Edip” one of the leading female figures in Turkish History. Ipek Calislar is trying to uncover the the truth as she chooses Edip; a character similar to Latife Hanim who has been subject to some controversial speculations herself. Was she unpatriotic or how patriotic was she? Was she a good wife and mother? What did she do on the battlefield? What was her role in pursuit of women’s rights? What was her opinion on the Armenian Forced Migration? Was Edip a vengeful supporter of violence? What were her views on Mustafa Kemal Ataturk?

In this book, which sold 50,000 copies when first published, Ipek Calislar discusses Halide Edip’s life spent in different parts of the world, which was full of struggle, literature and politics. The book written in the style of a novel, is based on patient and detailed research, witnesses, heretofore unrevealed letters and archived documents. In the Preface, Calislar says “Halide Edip had a dissident nature and believed that love and liberty should be regained each day, the reason she was brought down,” and continues “With her political and novelist sides, she was a true leader of contentment. She was full of talent. I tried to follow the significant patterns of her life when writing this book.”
