House of Leyla Gencer is opened to public
The house of Leyla Gencer in Milan has been recreated at the new building of Istanbul Sanat Vakfi in Sishane. Leyla Gencer is Turkey's greatest gift to the opera world. She has been the diva of La Scala (the sanctuary of the opera world) for the last 25 years. Her house in Milan has now been recreated at the new building of Istanbul Sanat Vakfi in Sishane. With the help of Melahat Behlil, France Cella and Massimo Gasparon, Leyla Gencer Evi has been created by her interior designer Pier Luigi Pizzi, who is the art director of Sferisto Opera and worked alongside Gencer at her operas for years. The house shows important sides of the artist's inseparable life with opera. The House is comprised of the artist's living room where her piano takes pride of place, her library where she spent long hours, her dining room where she entertained her guests with Turkish cuisine, the photographs of important people who shared her glorious opera life, her awards and medals, her bedroom, favorite costumes and accessories. The residence which was created to reflect her personal taste and the important things in her life, is full of detail reflecting her colorful and lively nature.
