QATAR AIRWAYS ADDS ANKARA

TO ITS GLOBAL FLIGHT NETWORK

* Katar Hava Yolları, 5 Nisan 2010, Pazartesi Günü, Doha’dan Ankara’ya ilk tarifeli uçuşunu gerçekleştirmesi kapsamında Esenboğa Havalimanı’nda bazı etkinlikler düzenledi. QR462 sefer sayılı ilk uçuşun Esenboğa Havalimanı’na inişini karşılayan su püskürtme törenini, havalimanı üst düzey yetkililerinin ve yerel bürokratların karşılaması izledi.

Qatar Airways began their 4–times weekly direct flights between Ankara and Doha on April 5, 2010. It is expected that Ankara flights will support its Istanbul flights and strengthen Qatar Airways’ operations in Turkey. On the first flight to Ankara, Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker was host to a select delegation of Abdul Aziz Al Noaimi, President of Qatar Civil Aviation and prominent members of the Middle Eastern media. Regarding the flights between Doha and Ankara, Akbar Al Baker said, “We would like to stay in Ankara and increase our number of flights from 4 to 7 within a short period of time.”
On this route, Qatar Airways, currently the only Gulf airline flying to Ankara, are using their Airbus A320 which has 12 Business Class and 132 Economy Class seats. Ankara has become the 3rd new route of Qatar Airways in 2010, which is also the 88th destination of the award winning airline. Last week, Qatar Airways also began flights between Doha–Bangalore and Doha–Copenhagen.

IMPROVEMENT IN COMMERCIAL RELATIONSHIPS
These new flights have begun at a time when commercial relationships between Qatar and Turkey are already strong. Since 2007, trade between the two countries has increased 5 fold from 21 million USD to 1.2 billion UDS in 2008. It is projected that this figure will reach 10 billion USD by 2015. More than 25 Turkish Companies have already made investments of over 8.3 billion USD in various projects, including the Doha International Airport to be completed next year by TAV Construction.

ATTRACTIVE TOURISM CENTER
Turkey continues to be a sought after tourism center with its gorgeous coast lines, cosmopolitan cities and historic attractions. According to the United World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)/United Nations, Turkey is the 3rd fastest–growing tourist destination in the world. For foreign tourists visiting Turkey, Ankara is very attractive due to its central location and proximity to attractions such as Cappadocia.

“We have already exceeded our targets for this route since 2004 when we first entered the Turkish market. We believe that the magnificent city, Ankara will benefit from our flights in respect of holiday or business trips.”
