TAV Construction’s Business Volume Now Exceeds $9 Billion

General Manager Aylin Selen, who explains that TAV Construction specializes in the field of airport construction, says that because of the very nature of the job, their stay in a country is limited with a project’s end date. She adds, “That is why we closely monitor the whole world in the field of airport construction and we will always be competing with the giants of the business. This is the last race we have won and we have succeeded in getting the bid for the Oman Muscat Airline, Package 1. We have also received bidding rights for the Terminal Building project, a tender that will take place soon. And again we will compete with the giants of the business!”

TAV Construction, which has become an international name thanks to its ever growing business volume and successful projects abroad, now ranks among the strongest players in the world construction industry. The “Runway and Infrastructure Work” within the International Muscat Airport Project has been assigned to the joint venture formed by TAV Construction and the Athens based CCC. It is one of the world’s largest airport projects, to be carried out in Muscat, the capital of Oman. TAV Construction’s business volume has thus exceeded $ 9 billion.

TAV Construction, founded in 2003 as part of TAV, has carried out approximately 2,720,000 square metres of construction up to the present. Based in Istanbul, TAV Construction has offices in Cairo, Doha, Dubai, Tunisia, Bahrain and Tripoli. Besides airport construction, the company’s experienced team also offers its services in the field of technical maintenance and repair, a field of limited supply.

The most important characteristic distinguishing TAV Construction from other construction companies is its superiority in the field of technology. TAV Construction, which also offers consultancy services in the field of airport infrastructure, an area of increasing demand throughout the world, conducts a considerable business volume in the Gulf Region and constructs intelligent buildings that require high technology.

TAV Construction has completed some of the most important projects in its region, including construction of the Istanbul Atatürk Airport International Terminal, the Ankara International and Domestic Terminal and the Izmir International Terminal in Turkey, construction of the Tbilisi and Batumi International Airports in Georgia and the International Cairo Airport TB3 Terminal project in Egypt. The company has also completed many projects in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Tunisia and Libya. Among these are the Qatar-Doha International Airport Terminal Complex--which will be one of the largest airports in the world--and the Libya-Tripoli International Airport Passenger Terminal. The soon to be completed construction of the Enfidha Airport in Tunisia (See Agenda, page 6), which will be operated by TAV Airports Holding for a period of 40 years, is also among the company’s sources of pride. In addition, the 101 floor high Marina 101 Skyscraper, designed as an intelligent building, situated in the Dubai Marina and one of the tallest buildings in the world, is another one of the projects garnered by TAV Construction.

Entry to the Oman Muscat Airport
The Runway and Infrastructure Work, the first tender package of the Oman Muscat International Airport Project--one of the most prestigious airport investments in the region--is now included among projects to be done by TAV Construction. The fact that TAV has managed to overtake such world giants as Strabag of Austria, Vinci of France and Larsen&Toubro of India in spite of the global crisis, is acknowledged as a major success. Thanks to this project, expected to be completed in 34 months, employment opportunities will be created for many Turkish architects, engineers and workers.

Including the Oman Muscat project, TAV Construction’s total business volume has risen from US$ 8 billion to US$ 9.23 billion. Completed projects constitute US$ 1.672 of this amount.

Following a three and a half month long detailed assessment, the tender for the project, the project consultant of which is Cowi-Larsen of Denmark and ADP of France, was won by the TAV Construction-CCC Joint Venture. The project, with a tender value of US$ 1 billion and 170 million, is considered among the biggest airport projects in the world.

Planned to be completed in 34 months, the Oman Muscat Airport project consists of a new, 4,000 meter-long runway, taxi ways and tarmac fields, renovation of the current runway, tarmac and taxi ways, airport connection and approach roads and junctions, energy transmission lines displacement, establishment of power centers and new lines, construction of main heating-cooling centers, fuel hydrant lines and hydrant pit systems, auxiliary buildings, landscape and drainage work.

A PROMISING EXAMPLE:TAV Construction-CCC
This year, in the Turkish-Arab Economic Forum, the TAV-CCC collaboration established for the Muscat Airport was cited as a “promising example” of successful collaboration in Turkish-Arab economic relations.
Successful projects accomplished as a result of Turkish-Arab collaboration constitute promising examples for all parties and all sectors involved. In this sense, the partnership between TAV Construction and CCC was no doubt one of the most striking examples presented this year at the Turkish-Arab Economic Forum. TAV Construction, which has become an important international name in the Gulf countries and North Africa, and Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), which is the 16th largest construction company in the world, shared the Muscat project as well as their objectives for the near future with participants at the Turkish-Arab Economic Forum. At the end of the session that was attended by TAV Airports Holding CEO M. Sani Şener and CCC Egypt Country Director Bassam Daher, participants had the opportunity to ask questions. Şener emphasized the importance of TAF, the formation of which was encouraged by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, from the point of view of Turkish-Arab economic relations and continued: “The TAV Group, which consists of TAV Construction and TAV Airports, has effected a variety of important projects in an area extending from the Middle East to Eastern Europe, North Africa and the Caucasus. It has always been brave in undertaking cooperation whenever necessary. I believe that our cooperation with CCC for the Muscat Airport bid has been very productive. Our company cultures, ethical approaches, service understanding and common corporate language lie behind the success of this harmonious collaboration. Many million dollar decisions in the Muscat project have been made in agreement by our higher management. Communication between CCC and us is very good.”
CCC Egypt Country Director Bassam Daher referred to their collaboration with the TAV Group as a “strategic alliance” and stated that whenever new opportunities arise they contact TAV. They are very happy with this cooperation. “Following our partnership with the TAV Group we have now drawn closer to Turkey and we have started to consider possible investments there.” Emphasizing that they could join forces with the TAV Group for other projects too, Daher said that they believe there are many areas in which the two organizations can assist each other.
