TAV Group’s social responsibility greeted with a smile

While it conducts hugely success projects which are the envy of the world, the TAV Group also maintains its “human” relations in a multi-dimensional manner. Acting on the principle of social responsibility awareness, the organization continues to provide support in many fields. Here are some notes from social responsibility activities that have put smiles on people’s faces over the past few months

The fame of the TAV Gallery has transcended Turkey’s borders

THE “GEORGIA” EXHIBITION WAS INAUGURATED BY THE MINISTER FOR ECONOMY:
The TAV Gallery, opened by TAV Airports Holding in the Istanbul Atatürk Airport to provide support for art and culture, hosted “Georgia,” Turkey’s neighbour. The exhibition, prepared with the contribution of the Georgian Tourism Department and the Georgia Adjara Region Tourism Department, was inaugurated by Lasha Zchvania,

Georgian Minister for Economy. In addition to the committee headed by Georgian Minister for Economy Lasha Zchvania, Mehmet Ali Ultaş, Civil Administration Director for the Istanbul Atatürk Airport and Deputy Governor of Istanbul, and TAV Airports Holding CEO Sani Şener also attended the opening. Local and foreign guests passing through the International Terminal showed great interest in the “Georgia” exhibition, which consists of 70 pieces reflecting the natural and cultural wealth of Georgia. Following Istanbul, the exhibition was also presented to art lovers in the Izmir Adnan Menderes and Ankara Esenboğa Airports.

Contribution towards the ‘Earthquake Awareness Project

EARTHQUAKE AWARENESS BEGINS AT A YOUNG AGE: The TAV Group--which defines social responsibility as the voluntary contribution made by companies towards the society and the future--is providing support for the “Earthquake Awareness Days” project initiated in 2007 by the Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Center. The project aims for wider earthquake protection awareness and for the formation of a sustainable infrastructure. In the Primary School Painting Competition Award Ceremony and Appreciation Plaques Ceremony organized for the project, TAV received an appreciation plaque for its support. The plaque was received on behalf of TAV Airport Holding by Agreements Coordinator Aysun Çelikler. Çelikler enthused that they were very happy to provide support for a project that was such a successful example of a visual and applied education model that supported the beginning of earthquake awareness from a very young age.

Collaboration with Social Services and the Society for the Protection of Children

COOKIE CLASSES FOR CHILDREN:
Cakes&Bakes, the baked products factory of BTA Catering, which undertakes food and beverage operations, hosted twenty children from the Bahçelievler Şeyh Said Kindergarten. The children had fun while learning the finer points of the profession and they also joined in a party to the accompaniment of Cakes&Bakes flavors.
The children, who visited the factory and received information on production details, also made a variety of cookies under the supervision of Yıldırım Beyazıt Serim, Executive Chef for BTA Catering and member of the National Team of Chefs. Dessert Chef Şule Gündoğan and A la carte Operation Chef Serkan Bozkurt also participated. BTA Sales and Public Relations Manager Gözde Saral emphasized that social responsibility projects constitute one of the most important priorities of the TAV Group, saying “Our aim with this organization was to introduce children to this profession and for them to have a good time. The time we spent with them was invaluable for us too.

BRIDGE OF SUPPORT FOR LÖSEV: Within the scope of its social responsibility projects, the TAV Group provides large scale support for LÖSEV, for both the continuity of its treatment processes and awareness-raising campaigns concerning leukemia. The airports operated by TAV are not only places of very high circulation, where many people come and go and where people from a variety of cultures meet, but they also offer significant opportunities from the point of view of promoting LÖSEV and collecting donations. In the money boxes set in the airports, what starts with small amounts eventually grows into a sizable contribution. TAV Esenboğa General Manager Nuray Demirer states that they aim to build a bridge of support for LÖSEV, that they will conduct a series of activities. In line with this aim, information projects are planned first for the 6,000 employees of the Ankara Esenboğa Airport, and then for passengers. In the next issues of NewsPORT you can find information about the next LÖSEV activities planned by the TAV Esenboğa Airport in coordination with other companies within the TAV Group.

“Awareness” with Garajistanbul; making a difference on stage

SPACES WHERE LIFE AND ART BREATHE:
TAV Airports supports “garajistanbul,” which is making an impact locally and internationally with its projects of different artistic and cultural content. Thus, airports and theatre stages, two spaces where life and art meet, come together. Garajistanbul and TAV Airports, two bodies that address an international audience, have joined to express common concepts such as “migration,” “nomadism,” “to be the other”, and “to be different.” The first activity to be presented with the support of TAV Airports at Garajistanbul, created by Övül and Mustafa Avkıran, founders of the 5. Sokak Theatre Company, was Istanbul’da Bir Dava (Trial in Istanbul) adapted from Kafka’s The Trial. Activities at Garajistanbul will be featured in detail in the next issues of NewsPORT.
