TAV’s “primeclass” CIP Service Group attends the EAVS (Europe Airports VIP Services) meeting held in Krakow in October.
EAVS is an independent workgroup founded with the aim of integrating and standardizing VIP services among member companies. Thus, group members are able to share their experiences. Participants of the meeting include VIP service organizations operating in airports such as Krakow (the host), Amsterdam, Baku, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Helsinki, London, Lyon, Malta, Munich, Prague and Vienna. TAV Airports’ “primeclass” CIP Service Group received the invitation to attend from Baku, with whom the Istanbul “primeclass” CIP service has a combined service agreement. After the goals of the group and the agenda of the meeting were reviewed, it was thought beneficial to attend the meeting.
EFFECTS OF THE CRISIS AND TAV’s SUCCESS
Bahadýr Aydos, Operations Manager of the “primeclass” Service, reports that the Krakow Airport Business Affairs Director made a presentation about the current global economic crisis and its effects upon the aviation sector. He added that everyone congratulated them as, among 27 major airports in Europe, only the “primeclass” CIP Service operating at TAV Istanbul achieved growth comparable to the previous year. Aydos attributes this success to the fact that it’s a developing sector in Turkey and to the high quality service being provided. Aydos also expresses that “primeclass” CIP Service has been directly affected by the increase in service potential at Ataturk Airport. “Our service quality is high and we can appeal to people’s perceptions. Once people try this service, they always continue to use it. 1.4 million people per year use “primeclass” CIP Service including CIP halls,” says Aydos. EAVS’s semiannual meetings will be held this year in Baku on June 10th, 2010 and Malta on October 10th, 2010.
After attending the meeting, “primeclass” CIP Service Operations Manager Bahadýr Aydos and Sales Assistant Manager E. Yasemin Akçay expressed their impressions and offered their conclusions as follows:
“VIP and CIP are not two distinct concepts in Europe.”

Can you give us your impressions of the meeting?
YASEMÝN AKÇAY:
We have contacted companies which provide similar services at some of the major airports of Europe, having a look at their business models. Customers who request this service from us expect the same service at the destination they are traveling to. Therefore, it is important for us to make reciprocal agreements with other airports in Europe. At the meeting, like every new member of EAVS, we made a presentation about the “primeclass” CIP Service and business model. During our presentation, the most impressive point was our “Prime Pack,” which consists of services within the airport we provide to 20,000 customers per year. As this number is very high when compared to other airports, our pricing policy and business model attracted the attention of participants. Munich Airport authorities offered to send staff to Istanbul (for a certain period) within the “Staff Exchange” program to benefit from our knowledge. After the meeting we tested our CIP service in Vienna and started meetings with other companies for collaboration. Our goal is to begin service abroad, increase our customer base and maintain our service integrity in 2010.
BAHADIR AYDOS:
We noticed during the meeting that VIP and CIP are not two distinct concepts in Europe. In almost all airports VIP terminals are also used for CIP services. Since Europe has an integrated structure legally and administratively, under the umbrella of European Union regulations, the services provided are not very distinct from each other. As Turkey is preparing to join the EU, it is very important to have this information.
Newsport :
Can you explain the differences between the VIP services provided in Europe and the services provided here?
BAHADIR AYDOS:
For example, at the Vienna Airport when you receive VIP services you are only asked for your passport; all transactions are carried out without meeting any passport police, check-in agents or customs officials. You are only dealing with the service providers. If you don’t have any baggage it is enough for you to arrive at the airport 20 minutes before your international flight. On the other hand, we use shortcuts at the airports in which we provide services. We provide a quick passport check, quick security pass and quick check-in. However, our guests are not exempted from these processes; they just complete these processes with us more quickly. We need the support of public authorities in order to compete and trade with Europe, because these kinds of services may determine a customer’s choice of destination.
Notes from the EAVS meeting
• Similar companies which provide similar services in the important airports of Europe were contacted. CIP services were tested in Krakow and Vienna and meetings were held for mutual collaboration.

•
It was decided to begin a “Staff Exchange” program among companies which provide VIP services. Thus, employees will see different business models and be able to share their experiences.
