TAV OPENS "ALEXANDER THE GREAT" IN MACEDONIA TO THE WORLD
Referred to as 'independence gift' by Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski to emphasize the significance of the day, Skopje Alexander the Great Airport, re-constructed by the TAV Group doubling its capacity, has become the symbol of Macedonia's rising with its spectacular opening on the 20th anniversary of Macedonia's independence.
The latest product of the expertise and know-how of TAV Construction and TAV Airports in airport operations, Skopje Alexander the Great Airport was opened on 6 September 2011 with the participation of Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski. The new airport will be operated by TAV Airports for the next 20 years (until March 2030) and is expected to provide service to 4 million passengers a year.
Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, Macedonian President GjorgeIvanov, Macedonian Transport Minister Mile Janakievski, TAV Airports Holding Chairman Hamdi AKIN, TAV Airports Holding CEO M. Sani Sener and DHMI General Manager Orhan Birdal were also present at the opening of Skopje Alexander the Great Airport, which was re-built by TAV Airports with a 100 million Euro investment in line with the anticipated growth of Macedonia.
The ceremony started with an opening speech by Macedonian Transport Minister Mile Janakievski and continued with a speech by Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister responsible for Economy Vladimir Peshevski. Afterward TAV Airports Holding CEO made a speech and the Macedonian Prime Minister closed with some final words.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, Macedonian Prime Minister Gruevski said, "We are witnessing a historical day for Macedonia. "Today, we are opening the new terminal building of Skopje Alexander the Great Airport and taking an important step towards becoming one of the most important flight centers of East Europe and Balkans On the 20th anniversary of Macedonia's independence, I am proud to be opening this airport completed by TAV Airports. I congratulate everyone who has contributed to giving us an airport worthy of the capital and its name. The achievement TAV has made in our country has also become a good reference for many Turkish investors".
TAV Airports CEO M. Sani Sener remarked that they were proud to have completed this project, which they initiated with the words "Hello Rumelia."He emphasized that the contributions made to the country would continue to increase: "We are also happy to be contributing to the development of Macedonia, with whom we have long-established cultural relations, by renovating the entrance gate to the capital Skopje to reflect the dynamic and modern structure of the country. Our contribution will continue to grow through fast, safe and cheerful service to our passengers.
MACEDONIAN SUCCESS OF TAV CONSTRUCTION
Transforming airport construction into art, TAV Construction achieves full marks on Skopje Alexander the Great and Ohrid Airport projects in collaboration with the Macedonian team deployed in Skopje and Ohrid. .
As confirmed in the Engineering News Record lists in 2010, TAV Construction is one of the top three names worldwide in the airport construction. Undertaking distinctive airport projects with advance technologies in Turkey, Libya, Egypt, Georgia, Tunisia, Doha, Dubai and Oman, TAV Construction has transferred its experience and know-how into the Skopje Alexander the Great Airport project achieved in Macedonia.
A management team of 35 white collar and 50 white collar technical and administrative personnel from Turkey has worked on TAV Construction Macedonia project. Nearly 20 local subcontractors have been involved on the application side. A compatible cooperation has been achieved with the local employees.
TAV Construction Logistics and Purchasing Coordinator Mehmet Ali Turkel, who is responsible for the management of the Macedonian project, explained the operations carried out in Macedonia: "In Ohrid, we have completed the VIP and hangar building and car park works, as well as the renovation of the existing structures, in a short period of time. The Skopje Terminal building, on the other hand, has received a lot of credit particularly for its architectural concept, an important model which has taken the country's building standards to the next level.
Referring to the ongoing works on approach roads and bridges for which the building permit process has been delayed due to expropriation; Turkel says that their goal is to complete those works within the contract time as well. The TAV Construction team plans to finalize all works by December 2011 and leave Macedonia.
Responsible for the management of the teams on site, Project Manager Faith Kan emphasizes the importance of the project in Macedonia and the role of the human factor in the success of the process: Starting with the design stage, we have not only built facilities to meet our contract liabilities, but created high quality, environmentally and people friendly, modern facilities that will be referred to with praise for years to come. We completed our work in 15 months' time, 1.5 months earlier than the due date and without any injuries. During this process, we compromised neither on the project budget, nor on the quality that we aimed for. And perhaps most significantly, we have displayed exemplary teamwork throughout this process.
NEW MOBILE SERVICES BY TAV IT
TAV Airports make traveling easier and fun with the launch of free mobile applications through iPad, iPhone, Android tablet and Blackberry. With the mobile applications developed for the most popular smart cell phones and tablet PCs, (i.e. Blackberry, iPhone, Android and iPad) it is possible to display the arrival and departure times as well as doing searches. Applications can be downloaded using the name TAV Mobile for iPhone, Blackberry and Android based smart phones and TAV - Airports for iPad.
Passengers can get the latest news on sales at duty free stores with TAV mobile applications, not only accessing a list of the stores at the airports, but also identifying the specific locations of these stores. Events held at the airports and contact information for service points such as restaurants, cash machines, ticket sales points, private lounges and the Lost & Found Office are among the features offered by the application. A currency converter calculator is also downloaded with the application.
The TAV Mobile application covers the airports operated by TAV Airports; Istanbul Ataturk, Ankara Esenboga and Izmir Adnan Menderes in Turkey, Enfidha and Monastır in Tunisia, Tbilisi and Batumi in Georgia.

ISS Corporate Services (ICS), one of the world's most respectable independent corporate ratings organizations, raised TAV Airport's governance rating grade to 9.09, which is currently the highest level in Turkey. With this score, TAV Airports Holding maintained the leading position it attained last year in the Istanbul Stock Exchange Market Corporate Governance Index.
TAV RECEIVES AWARDS IN 6 CATEGORIES
As part of the third Turkey Investor Relations Awards organized by Thomson Reuters, Extel Surveys and Acclaro, TAV Airports topped the category "Best CEO for Investor Relations," while also receiving awards in a further five categories; "Best CFO for Investor Relations," "Best Investor Relations Officer," "Best Investor Relations Website," "Best Investor Relations Department" and "Best in Sharing Financial Outcomes".
SHELL & TURCAS AND TAV OPENS "THIS CITY ISTANBUL" TO THE WORLD
A compilation of photographs of Istanbul taken by photographer Tahsin Aydogmus, selected from the book "This City Istanbul" is being presented by Shell &Turcas in an exhibition being held at the TAV Gallery. The opening ceremony was attended by Istanbul Deputy Major and Local Authority Ahmet Aydin, TAV Airports CEO M. Sani Sener, Shell &Turcas Petrol Inc. Board Member Yilmaz Tecmen and The President of Shell Turkey Ahmet Erdem, as well as a large group of guests. Consisting of 105 black & white photographs printed with an archival technique and published in both Turkish and English, the book "This City Istanbul" has three sections; "Time," "Sea" and "Human." On display for the next month, the "This City Istanbul" exhibition consists of 40 photographs selected from the book.
THE 'STAR' OF TAV SHINES FOR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION
TAV Airports attends the 'Stars of Istanbul' project organized by UNICEF with support by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, with its own 'star'. TAV's star 'Dream Framer' designed by photograph artist Mehmet Turgut for TAV Airports will be exhibited at Istanbul Ataturk Airport International Terminal along with 6 more stars, for the next three months.
Each corporation is represented by its own star through this art project which aims to contribute into providing necessary funds in order to bring 90 thousand 9 to 14 years old out-of-school children to the same level with their peers through intense education.
THE ART OF SUPPLY REQUIRES EXPERTISE
Pointing out the strategic importance of purchasing activities for businesses in global competition arena, Logistics and Purchasing Coordinator Mesut Akbas highlights that they achieved a 15% savings in 2010 by employing their expertise and experience. Can you tell us about the structuring of the Purchasing Team within the organization and their evolution during this process? We are a team of 15 in the Logistics and Purchasing Coordination Department. We operate with eight Purchasing Specialists, a Senior Stock Control and Reporting Specialist, two Stock Control and Reporting Specialists, a Senior Contracts Specialist and two Drivers. We are also in coordination with teams working in purchasing departments at the other airports that we operate and construct, providing them with the support required. Beginning work at commencement of the IstanbulAtaturkAirport construction, our department has also undertaken the responsibility of monitoring and coordination of contract and insurance services of all companies within TAV Airports Holding and its subsidiaries, in addition to purchasing processes in parallel with the growth of our company and consequent budget increases. We are involved in all stages of material and service supply as well as purchasing for TAV Airports Holding, TAV Istanbul, TAV Operation Services, TAV IT and all construction business units operating under the TAV Group or independently. In addition, we also handle all types of insurance policy transaction services required by all TAV Airports Holding companies.
We are responsible for the supply of technically specified right material from the right source at the right time, as well asat right costs by sourcing the right suppliers. These five "rights" are indispensible in all the activities we carry out.
MEETING ART AT THE TAV WORKSHOP
The success of the TAV Sports Club, which brought the TAV Family together with the participation of TAV Group CEO M. Sani Sener and other executives in an environment outside of work, encouraged the development of a new project within the TAV Group. The arts-oriented TAV Workshop, which aims to encourage and support for creativity and artistic expression, has now been added to the TAV Sports Club, which has shown that in-house activity that plays a large role in employee performance and motivation.
Opened in February 2011, the TAV Workshop, a "corporate social meeting forum," will continue in its mission to provide attendees with new areas of motivation in life with courses in music, dance, painting and photography. Having 20,000 employees, the TAV Group -from blue collar to senior management- is very happy to get together during these sports and art activities.
